Population of Ukraine in 2013


Ukraine has a population of 45,994,287 inhabitants (2008 estimate). The population density is 76 inhabitants / km ² approximately. The settlements are denser in the regions of the Far East and in the West, as they are more scattered in the center of the country except in Kiev. About 67% of the population lives in urban areas. The growth rate in the late 1980s was the lowest of the former USSR, and currently is negative (-0.65% in 2008).

Ukraine is divided into 24 administrative provinces, among which are the capital district and the Autonomous Republic of Crimea. Kiev, the capital, is the country's largest city, with a population estimated at 2,618,000 inhabitants in 2003.
